9 heures au cabanon [9 hours at the shed]

Video, 60 min, 2014

« 9 heures au cabanon » recounts the chromatic variations of a day, framed by the openings of Le Corbusier’s cabanon on the Mediterranean coast. This video offers us a panopticon of lights composed of nine views of the windows from three different postures and at three different times of the day: dawn, noon and dusk.

Amandine Rousguisto composed her video after several visits to Le Corbusier’s cabanon, which appeared to be the embodiment of the architect’s point of view, in the literal sense of the word: his way of framing the landscape and forcing our gaze upon it. She had observed this capacity of Le Corbusier at the Cité Radieuse and paradoxically in an outdoor space, on his famous terrace where the architect reinvented the landscape of Marseille. It is this fundamental idea of architecture – the relationship between inside and outside – that became familiar to the artist thanks to his frequent visits to the cabanon. But it was necessary to « frame the frame », in this case to film the three openings and show them simultaneously.
