VeryHighStuff artist collective at Hangar Pellegrini

2022

Laure Mathieu 1 Place Pellegrini - 06300 Nice

Saturday 26 November at 6pm

Video screenings organised by the VeryHighStuff Collective [VHS].

After the Dojo, it’s the Hangar Pellegrini and the square of the same name that Very High Stuff wanted to settle in for OVNi 2022. This year the collective has given carte blanche to video artists, performers, composers and visual artists who propose videos and an installation (visible on November 25 and 26), as well as two performances (November 26 at 6pm). The workshop proposes an intimate diffusion of Romain Carré and Monica Hirano’s works; the square will be invested with a concert and dancers in costume, a performance by Nicolas Jacquot and Axelle Terrier.

2022 - Black and White

🐍🌜⛳️🌱🥳🌜⛳️⚡️🌱 (ZEITGEIST) is an interpretation of the « spirit of the age », a term derived from 18th century German philosophy, in the form of a YouTube playlist. The idea of a collective thought relative to an era is both attempted and challenged by the course of a video thread. These videos, chosen from the contemporary encyclopaedia offered by the video platform, are intermingled with advertisements, algorithmic variations and durations that prevent an exhaustive view.

Monica Hirano

Mariage Blanc

2022 - 40:00 - Color

The performance captured in a photo series reflects one of the facets of the saga of an immigrant that seeks for a legal way to stay in Europe. The performer Monica Hirano embodies many problematic stories that are surrounding the marriage of convenience in the global north – Europe and North America.

Animated by the music of Nicolas Jacquot, the dancers invest the place Pellegrini. Axelle Terrier made the costumes based on the different scenes of the performance. In succession anonymous spectators of a concert, dancers, then models with gestures inspired by the fashion show until becoming pure dreamlike figures, the performers deliver a semi-improvised choreography that subtly blurs the boundaries between disciplines and continuously thwarts the
expectations of the public.
