Filipe Vilas-Boas cultivates a practice situated at the confluence of digital art, installation, and performance. His protean inquiries, oscillating between poetic gesture and conceptual stimuli, scrutinize our technological modalities and their subsequent ethical, social, and aesthetic implications.
Our collaboration originated in dialogue—a convergence of probabilities and artistic openings that harmonized with our vision of the OVNi Biennial as a contemporary agora.It thus appeared self-evident to place the RE:PUBLIC project at the heart of this 2026 edition.
A monumental hemispherical sculpture conceived as a public square, the work mirrors the very essence of our existence: it invites a collective quest for equilibrium by reenacting our cultural and political bonds—a shared state that encompasses the social body in its entirety.

OVNi is holding a press conference in Paris on June 23, 2026 at 10 a.m.. The event will include a presentation of the Biennale’s program, as well as an introduction to the collective and participatory project RE: PUBLIC by Filipe Vilas Boas, the associate artist for the 2026 edition.

So Many Bodies Growing With Us

The flagship exhibition of the OVNi Bienniale, conceived as a fluid departure from the « happening » toward the grace of dance, offers one of the many nuances reflections of this 2026 edition’s theme: « Performancia ». The exhibition invites visitors on a historical and critical journey through these practices, illustrating how artists have anticipated new « writings » of the body-scripts that are sometimes diverted by contemporary logic and the shifting nature of the performative act. This trandisciplinary and transgenerational survey approaches the body as a site of lived experience, philosophical inquiry, and liberation. Structured as a series of autonomous episodes, the exhibition calls upon the audience to reconstruct their own interpretation. Here, the body emerges as an event, a political and poetic vessel, and a conduit for plural imaginaries. Navigationg the space between historical legacy and the contemporary moment, the artists illuminate the tensions between self-expression, mechanisms of control, and the pull of the spectacular.

Seeing Song, A Sonic portrait of Video Art explores the convergences between musical creation, song, experimental cinema, choreographic performance, photography, and various other forms of worldly exaltation-spanning the television screen to the digital realms of Web 3.0. It is a visual odyssey where the music video and vidéomusique become a playground for the subverting the short-format, transforming it into a laboratory for radical experimentation. Thought creative collisions, this landmark exhibition traces the evolution of a genre that has seamlessly absorbed every technological revolution. « The Singing Body » becomes a narrative celebrating the electric encounter between pop icons and the finest visual artists, sweeping aside the ambiguity between auteur cinema and the commercial film.

REMINDER – CALL FOR PROJECT
OVNi SUD EMERGENCES AWARD
|

The festival has launched its call for the projects for emerging artists from the Grand Sud region (South of France and Occitanie regions and Monaco).
Selected artists will be invited to design an in-situ immersive installation in one of the ten rooms of the hotel dedicated to the award during the peak of the Biennale – from November 26 to 29, 2026.
A jury of professionals will select the winner for a one-month residency with a grant to support writing or production, with the assistance of OVNi’s Le Cercle des amis and mentorship from OVNi.
We encourage you to widely share this call for projects with your partners, networks, schools, cultural organizations and anyone who may be interested.
